On Sunday, April 26 our program staff shared the first reading for the new Weekly Common Read. This weeks article is from brainpickings.org and is titled, “Is There a God? Stephen Hawking Gives the Definitive Answer to the Eternal Question”. Click the title to access the article!

We hope this reading will uplift you and provide you with something to ponder over the week, and that you will join us for the Zoom meeting on Saturday May 2, at 11am to discuss.

On Sunday, April 19 we had our Earth Day Service and a Water Blessing, led by Cynthius Scanlon. We want to share a poem, and some images that were on slides used during the service. For more information about the event this Saturday, go to interfaithearthkeepers.org.

Lessons from the Pandemic by Susan Schneider

What would happen if

Those who could work from home, did?

We didn’t see flying as a necessity, but a rare and valuable privilege?

What would happen if

We stopped purchasing for fashion- we wore all the clothes we had and washed them less often?

We bought what was necessary and stopped shopping therapy?

We spend free time outside instead of at the mall?

What would happen if

We met friends in nature?

We counted on our neighbors for support, offering to shop for one another on rare trips to the store?

We celebrated each other and celebrated with each other in creative ways, in simple ways?

What if

We each grew backyard food and traded excess with our neighbors?

We vacationed simply?

We focused on sustaining rather than economic growth?

We slowed down?

What if

We McGyvered more- we reused what we had to make what we needed?

We spend time creating art and music and writing and shared our creations of hope?

We built connections with people who were near us and used technology to maintain relationships afar?

What if

The world’s brightest minds worked together to find healing solutions for the planet?

What if anyone with the ability went to work to put those solutions into action?

What if everyone expressed their gratitude and supported these essential workers?

What if government officials worked together to require change based on science and research?

What if humanity worked together out of love for each other and the planet to use less, to do less, to heal?

What if we responded to our climate emergency as we have to this pandemic?

We could save lives- we could flatten the curve of climate change.
